January, 2008 – Outdoor Idaho won for Best Series at the annual PBS gathering in Ohio. "A Palouse Paradise" also won for Best Science & Nature program; and "Idaho Getaways" won the Information category. The awards came from NETA, the National Educational Telecommunications Association. Bush administration close to making regulatory change on species act
An Interior spokesperson said Wednesday that the Office of Management and Budget was reviewing a rule that would allow federal agencies, not the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or the National Marine Fisheries Service, make the determination as to whether their projects would have an impact on endangered species, and that the rule could be finalized within a matter of weeks.

West's situation with beetle-damaged forest needs perspective
The outbreak of pine bark beetles in the West's forests is probably quite normal if you could examine centuries of data, and the effect of all those dead and dying trees is probably not as dire as some say. A guest column by George Wuerthner.
