PBS
honored Idaho's Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation on Thursday, October 2, in San
Antonio, Texas for its sustained and vital commitment to Idaho Public
Television.
One of five winners of the national 2008 Public Television Leadership
Award, Harry L. Bettis, Emmett, president of the foundation that his great aunt
founded, accepted the award. The ceremony took place at the PBS Development
Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
"Since 1984, the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation's support has helped make us a valued statewide resource," said Kim Philipps, director of marketing and development for IdahoPTV. "The foundation shares our vision for meeting the needs of the community, and we are fortunate to have their friendship, interest and financial support."
Throughout more than two decades, the foundation has made possible statewide public affairs programming such as Idaho Reports, a weekly show focusing on state legislative issues, and Dialogue, Idaho's only statewide public affairs call-in program. D4K: Dialogue For Kids, a monthly science call-in show for elementary students, and Outdoor Idaho, the series that showcases Idaho and its citizens, are also on the air because of the support of the foundation, Philipps noted. She also pointed out that the foundation has been extremely helpful in preparing IdahoPTV for the upcoming February 17 digital transition by providing critical funding for upgraded equipment, studio lighting, set and cameras.

As most people are aware, there's a big change in television viewing coming our way in February when TV stations convert from analog to digital broadcasting. In cooperation with the Boise Mayor's office, Federal Communications Commissioner Robert McDowell will participate in a special town hall meeting at city hall from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Monday, September 29th. This is your chance to learn firsthand more about this important change in the way you will receive television news and entertainment. Brought to you by the Idaho State Broadcasters Association and Idaho Public Television.
Recently, Frontline co-creator and Idahoan Michael Kirk spoke at IdahoPTV about his Peabody award-winning documentary projects.
We're offering a special web-only video of Kirk's speech (see links below). In it, he talks about his documentaries including Caring For Your Parents, Frontline programs such as "Cheney's Law" and "Bush's War," and the upcoming fall special profiling presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.
